Stop unnecessary renovation work on overbridge: PWD to officials

A PWD team on Tuesday inspected the ongoing renovation work on a foot overbridge near the ITO here and directed officials to stop "unnecessary" work on the part of the structure which is in "good condition".

Sources said officials found there was no need of changing tiles on the ramp of the foot overbridge on the Vikas Marg as they were in a "good condition".

"Chief Engineer along with his team inspected the ramp and he will submit his report later this week," said a senior Delhi government official.

BJP leaders have alleged the renovation work was undertaken despite the overbridge being in a good shape.

Images and videos of laboureres removing slabs from the stairs of the overbridge in front of the Public Works Department Headquarters were circulated on the social media.
In addition to this episode, BJP MP Maheish Girri has written to Lt Governor Anil Baijal on the matter.

Girri in his complaint demanded action be taken against the officials responsible for "misuse of public funds" in "avoidable" renovation work.

Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari also visited the overbridge on Tuesday and alleged "corruption" in the renovation work.

The anti-skid chequered tiles in "very good condition" are being removed and replaced by granite-marble slabs, he said after visiting the overbridge.

"Undue renovation of this foot overbridge symbolises corruption of the Kejriwal government."

The renovation work going on owes reply from minister Satyendra Jain and secretary of the department, Tiwari said.

Meanwhile, Tiwari alleged that a number of complaints have been received for giving benefits to concerned contractors by renovating the maintained roads, nullahs and footpaths. "But, this time breaking an excellent condition Foot Over Bridge with all weather tiles, speaks volumes on corruption under Kejriwal run Government," he said.
