LG lauds SDMC for restoration of several spots in South Delhi

Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal on Saturday complimented the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) over the work it has done towards restoration of the Rock Garden in Munirka and "beautification" of the space under the Andrews Ganj flyover.

The LG lauded the work done by the civic body "in restoring and maintaining the green lungs of south Delhi", Baijal's office said in a statement. Baijal advised the SDMC to keep up the momentum of such work for transformation of urban spaces.

It took the Corporation a mere eight days to clear the rubble and clean the area under the flyover and transform it into "a well-lit space with sculptures that showcase various yoga positions", the statement read.
The inspiration for the 'Yoga Mudra Sthal', as the Corporation has decided to name it, came from one Matunga Park below a flyover in Mumbai.

The Commissioner of SDMC informed the LG that the Corporation had a target of developing 100 parks in south Delhi within one year.

The LG also congratulated the Public Works Department (PWD) for transforming the area under the Munirka flyover – Munirka Village Park – and dedicated it to public.

According to the statement, the PWD took only two-and-a-half months to transform the area, which was once "encroached by unauthorised parking and... a malba (rubble) dumping ground".
Baijal further made an appeal to the citizens to keep their surroundings clean and sought the support of "active residents, including women" in ensuring this.
