Delay in shifting Kherki Dhaula toll: Citizens protest against govt

Gurugram: The occasion of Christmas was another moment for the citizens of new Gurugram to register their protest on the delay of Kherki Dhaula toll plaza. A signature campaign has been initiated to put pressure on the state government and the public authorities over the removal of the toll. The protest comes after the Government announces that owing to the challenges in the departmental work, the shifting of the toll will take time.

While the 65-acre area of Sehrawan had been earmarked, the officials of National Highway Authority Limited (NHAI) has now expressed over the new location. It has come to notice that the new forms a vital part of green belt area of Aravallis that consists of various wildlife animals including the leopards.

For lakhs of Gurugrammers who either work in Manesar or reside in new Gurugram travelling through Kherki Dhaula has been nothing sort of misery.

Various challenges at the toll have resulted in several alterations being reported. Taking cognisance of the complaint, the Haryana government have decided to move the toll.

However, even after one year of the formal announcement, the plan has hit a roadblock due to various challenges.

Many, however, admit that since Kherki toll is a major revenue generator, there is a delay. What has led to even more flaring of tempers is the decision to implement a steep increase in toll rates.

Now from one way a

passenger vehicle that used to pay Rs 60 will have to pay Rs 65 and heavy commercial vehicles that used to pay an amount of Rs 185 will have to pay a one-way toll of Rs 190.

Unhappy over the move, various citizens have taken to social media in expressing their anger.

Meanwhile, there is also no clarity of when the Kherki Dhaula toll will be shifted to the new location.

Many aggrieved residents claim that even after paying such a high price, the facilities for the commuters have reduced and the main motive is only to increase the profits.
