Deadly air: Parents in Gurugram hail Delhi govt's school holiday move

Gurugram: The announcement by the Delhi government to declare holiday in Delhi schools till November 5 may have provided relief to lakhs of parents. Among these also include a sizeable number of parents from Gurugram who with no option are forced to let their children travel long distances in these deadly air conditions.

With a large number of residents from Delhi shifting their base to Gurugram their wards still, go to schools in the national Capital that include

prominent educational institutions in South-East and South-West Delhi. The minimum amount of travel time for a student in Gurugram ranges to one hour which is minimum and maximum amounts to

two hours.

According to WHO young lungs are particularly susceptible to air pollution; exposure in childhood can lead to permanent respiratory health issues such as asthma and lung cancer. The months of October

to February often, therefore, seems to be a vulnerable time for the students. For preventive measures, most of the parents are now on a compulsory basis providing their wards with masks. It is important to note that even though Gurugram consists of some of the best schools affiliated to ICSE course, most of the parents send their kids to schools in Delhi because of their affiliation

to CBSE.

Strict guidelines have been passed in most of the school in the city to not allow any outdoor activities for children.
