DCW sends notice to DUSIB over closed toilets

New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Jaihind has issued a notice to Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) and three municipal corporations seeking a list of all the non-functional toilets closed in Delhi. The Commission has specifically sought information on those toilets that are ready but yet non-functional.
The DCW had organised a Mahila Panchay at Chandnhola village in the Chhatarpur constituency. In the routine surveillance it was found that a new toilet block was recently constructed but was closed for usage. After the visit, the Commission issued a notice to the DUSIB and asked the reason for closure of the toilet block. The Shelter board replied that the toilet blocks tender to run the toilets has already been issued but no agencies or NGOs have come forward for the maintenance and running of the toilet. The Commission had also asked the shelter board about why they themselves could not maintain the toilets.
