To resolve domestic issues of women living in Karawal Nagar, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) came forward and organised a Women Empowerment/Awareness camp on Thursday, attended by women in large numbers.
DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal addressed the event and also heard the plight of many women. Issues regarding unclean water, security, lack of cleanliness and electricity, along with domestic violence, were also discussed.
"Dirty water is making us sick and we have to buy water from outside" said a woman living in the area. To resolve the issue, Maliwal demanded a report from top officials of Delhi Jal Board.
A schoolgirl narrated her ordeal with eve-teasing, revealing it as her reason of dropping out. The Commission requested her father to admit her back to school and offered help for her re-admission.
Around 100 women submitted written complaints. Many also requested the cancellation of contract of a liquor shop in the area, located less than 100 metres of a temple.
