NEW DELHI: The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has saved a young woman from selling her kidney who had come to Delhi to raise money.
The woman's boyfriend had demanded a sum of Rs 1.8 lakh from her in order to get married.
Pushpa (name changed) had previously been married at a younger age, but later got divorced and subsequently began living with her parents.
During this time, she befriended a neighbour and soon the two decided to get married.
She fought with her parents and went to Muradabad to marry her boyfriend.
However, he turned her down and demanded money to get married.
She reached Delhi looking to sell her kidney and went to a doctor for operation.
Looking at her situation, the doctor contacted DCW's 181 helpline.
After listening to her ordeal, a DCW counsellor united the woman with her family and beseeched her to file an FIR against the boyfriend. The demand has also been intimated to Bihar Commission for Women.
DCW chairperson commended the action of the doctor who gave information about the girl to DCW and police.
