Daylight shooting: Man killed by armed assailants in Narela

New Delhi: More than half a dozen bullets were sprayed on a car which resulted in the death of a person in Narela area of Outer North district.

The incident took place in broad daylight on Sunday. Police said that the deceased was involved in more than a dozen criminal cases.

The investigators claimed that they are probing the case from different angles including personal enmity.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer-North) Gaurav Sharma said, "This is not the case of a gang war and we will solve it soon." According to police, they were alerted about the incident in the morning.

Police further said that a team was rushed to the spot which was in Lampur Mod, Main Road in Narela.

The deceased in the case was identified as Virender alias Kala. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Adding further, an official said that the deceased was a bad character of one of the police stations in the city. He was involved in 14 criminal cases.

The investigation in the case revealed that the deceased was going to his relative's house in the morning when three to four armed assailants intercepted his SUV car and started incessant firing at his vehicle.

His driver fled the spot but the Virender was trapped inside the car.

"Around seven-eight rounds were fired at deceased. After committing the crime the accused fled the spot," added the officer. It is suspected that personal conflicts resulted in the death of Virender.

After the police team reached the spot it was found that the car was riddled with bullets.

The investigators said that several teams have been formed to solve the case.

"We are working on various leads. Several people have been questioned in this regard," police said.

The cops are also using technical analysis to solve the case. Raids are going on in various places.

Reports were coming that the deceased had contested in municipal polls on a party ticket from Narela area earlier.

"Few years ago, he had contested the election and lost," a police officer said adding that property dispute angle is also being probed.

The Delhi Police are also scanning CCTV footages of some places to get further clues in the case.

Sources said that the investigators are probing whether the deceased had arguments or conflict with some person in recent past. A case under the appropriate section was registered in the police station.
