Day after immolation bid at India Gate, man dies

NEW DELHI: A 20-year-old man, who had set himself ablaze at the India Gate, died in the early hours of Wednesday at a hospital. It was found that the man and his neighbors had a fight over the construction of a wall, but it was not a major one, the police said.
The man, identified as Heera Lal, a resident of Tahirpu at 3.10 am. He had suffered 80 per cent burn injuries, a senior police officer said. In a suicide note, he had alleged that he was tired of the frequent fights with his neighbours and was ending his life, the police said.
The note was found near the place where he had poured petrol on himself, they said, adding that his family members and neighbours have been questioned.
Lal was a student at a government school here and had three siblings. His parents had some health problem. Recently, he had an argument with a neighbour over sharing water due to which he was depressed.
The police have also said that there had been several such incidents in the past in which he had altercations with his neighbours and that had taken a toll on his studies.
