Criminal inspired by celluloid villain arrested from Dwarka

NEW DELHI: A criminal, whose antics were reportedly inspired from the popular Bollywood film 'Agneepath', was arrested here along with his two accomplices when he had come to kill a businessman.

On Thursday, police came to know that 21-year-old Lokesh Chauhan, alias Chunnu, and his associate Jai Singh (27) would be coming near Vardhaman Plaza in Matiala to meet their other associate Dharampal alias Pradeep (27).
Subsequently, a trap was laid and after the trio got together, the police team surrounded them.
Chauhan retaliated by pointing a pistol at one of the constables, but was soon overpowered and the trio was nabbed. Four illegal pistols and seven live rounds were seized from them.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Shibesh Singh on Friday stated that during interrogation, Chauhan revealed that he was first arrested in a motorcycle theft case and was incarcerated at Bhondsi jail.
While in jail, he befriended several hardened criminals and thought of making a name for himself in the world of crime.
"He was later arrested in an attempt to murder case in Gurugram and was in jail for over three months, before being released on a bail over a month back," the official said.
Police claimed that Chauhan was given a contract of Rs five lakh to kill a man in Dwarka.
He, along with his associates, had planned to kill him on Thursday and was out to execute his plan, before the police nabbed them.
"Chauhan was reportedly fond of Bollywood movies and was inspired by the lead character of the film 'Agneepath' Vijay Deenanath Chauhan, played by Amitabh Bachchan," the DCP said.
