Criminal held after gunfight in Delhi

New Delhi: A 24-year-old criminal was arrested here on Wednesday after a gunfight with the police in which he was injured, police said.
The incident occurred around 1 p.m. in Vishwas Nagar in east Delhi when constable Vivek Kumar saw two persons on a bike and recognised them as those involved in a chain snatching case on November 26.
"Kumar tried to intercept the criminals. But they opened fire at him. In retaliatory fire, one criminal got injured and was overpowered by Kumar while the other fled," Deputy Commissioner of Police Nupur Prasad said.
The accused, identified as Monu, has been arrested. He is a resident of Indirapuram in Uttar Pradesh, Prasad said.
The CCTV footage of the chain snatching case was circulated among beat staff including Kumar "who took brave and prompt action", the officer added.
