Criminal held after encounter

Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad police on late Sunday night arrested a wanted criminal who carried a reward of Rs 50, 000 on his head following a gun battle in city police station area. Police officials said while the criminal sustained bullet injuries in his leg during the encounter, two police constables were also injured in the incident.

Shlok Kumar, Superintendent of Police (city), Ghaziabad, said that the arrested accused has been identified as Manoj alias Mintu a native of Ecotech-3 area in Gautam Buddh Nagar. "During routine police checking at around 1:20 am near Hapur T-point, police team spotted a suspicious car driving towards them and signalled to stop when he didnt stop police chased him and at a sharp cut near Navyug Market, the car collided into a wall while the accused continued firing at police after stepping out of the car. When police retaliated, the accused got bullet injuries in his leg and caught by police," said Kumar.
