Couple shot dead in Ghaziabad, honour killing suspected
Ghaziabad: A young couple was allegedly found murdered with bullet injuries inside a temple in Ghantaghar police station area of Ghaziabad on Monday. Police suspect the matter to be of honour killing, however, they are probing all the possible angles including a love triangle.
According to police, the deceased man has been identified as Annu Chauhan (26), a native of Uttarakhand but lived at a rented house in Sarvodaya Nagar in Vijay Nagar area of Ghaziabad. Annu was into a relationship with a girl named Preeti (32), resident of Pratap Vihar area. The couple had arrived together on a Scooty to visit temple in Sai Upvan on Monday morning.
Shlok Kumar, Superintendent of Police (city), Ghaziabad said that the couple was shot by an unidentified person while they had come to visit temple. "The couple had visited temple together, around 7:30 am on Monday. A PCR call was received around 8.30 am, following which a police team rushed to the spot. We found both of them lying dead in a pool of blood with multiple bullet injuries. The bodies were sent for postmortem while their families were informed," said Kumar.
An eyewitness said that soon as the couple stepped out of the temple an unidentified person started firing mercilessly on them. Sources said that Annu was in the glass trading business while the girl's family was aware of their relationship.
Meanwhile, police ruled out the possibility of man murdering the woman then committing suicide by shooting himself.
In another incident reported from Loni area of Ghaziabad, a jilted lover allegedly shot at a woman injuring her critically on Monday afternoon. Police have arrested the accused while the girl has been referred to GTB hospital in Delhi. According to police, the accused identified as Dheeraj (25) allegedly shot bullet at a woman identified as Usha (22) which hit her hand. The incident was reported from tropic city police station area of Ghaziabad.
"Both of them had done their schooling together in Pooja Nagar area of Loni. Girl's family had fixed her marriage with some other person which might have bothered the accused so he decided to take such a step," a senior police official of Tronica city police station.
