Cops detain Tibetan protestors near Janpath Metro station

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Monday detained nine Tibetan protestors near Janpath Metro station, with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) stating that the station was closed on account of a protest held by the arrested persons against a Chinese delegation.
According to police, the protestors were detained and taken to Connaught Place police station.
''It was a matter of security, that's why we detained the protestors," said a senior police official.
A DMRC source stated that as advised by police, the entry and exit at Janpath Metro station was closed for passengers due to protests by Tibetan students against the Chinese delegation, around 7.30 pm.
Announcements were being done regarding same, the official added.
Police further said that at the time of incident, the Chinese delegation was passing through the Janpath area and safety measures were accordingly taken.
When asked whether the protesters have been released, a senior official refused to comment.
