Cop attacked with screwdriver by auto-lifter, nabs accomplice

An Assistant Sub Inspector of Delhi Police posted in Jafarabad area of north Delhi was attacked with a screw driver by an autolifter after the cops tried to check him and suffered serious injuries.
On Friday around 3:30 am, during routine checking ASI Virender posted in Jafarabad Police Station stopped two men after noticing that they were moving suspiciously in the area in Ghonda Chowk.
As the two men were asked to stop, one of them took out a pointed screw driver from his pocket and started attacking the cop.
His accomplice also tried to attack Virender but the vigilant cop caught hold of him.
To free his friend from the ASI's grip, the other accused repeatedly stabbed Virender on his face multiple times.
Virender faced injuries on his face, under his eye and ears. The assailant hit him around five times.
However, despite being brutally attacked by the two , ASI Virender did not let go one of the accused.
Seeing the brave effort of the cop, the prime accused fled the spot. It was then Virender called help and informed the police staff.
Soon, the team from the Jafarabad Police Station reached the spot and took the cop to a hospital where he is undergoing treatment and said to be out of danger.
"We have registered an attempt to murder case in the incident. The brave ASI managed to arrest one of the accused who is identified as one Naveen, a resident of Ambedkar basti.
"We have checked his background and he was found to be an autolifter. Despite being attacked, ASI Virender caught hold of the accused showing his bravery," said DCP North east AK Singla.
Cops have formed several teams to nab the prime accused autolifter who is on the run.
Raids are being conducted on the possible hideouts of the accused on the basis of information provided by the arrested acccused.
