Consultant will be hired to study feasibility of 24-hr water supply

New Delhi: The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on Monday approved hiring of a consultant for the study to maximise water supply to the residents of the national Capital. The Delhi Jal Board approved several measures of public good in its 144th Board meeting held at the Delhi Secretariat under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister and DJB Chairman Arvind Kejriwal.

The board approved hiring of a consultant for the study to maximise water supply to the residents of Delhi. Delhi Jal Board is supplying potable water to a large population of NCT of Delhi. Presently, DJB supply is about 900 MGD water daily through approximately 1,400 kms of transmission and distribution network. The Delhi Jal Board is working 24X7 for augmentation of water supply in Delhi and better water supply to the people of Delhi. "Looking at the various projects being undertaken and approved by the board in recent times, the board on Monday approved the hiring of a consultant to study the possibility of 24-hour water supply," the Delhi government said in a statement.

For that purpose, consultants would suggest creation of district metered areas to improve water distribution network, achieving better water pressure management, less contamination, less leakages among others. It will also reduce non-revenue water connections, which are as high as 47 per cent in Delhi. The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) also extended deadline for regularisation of Domestic/Commercial unauthorised water connection. In a major relief to the residents who have unauthorised water connection and want to get a regular one at a nominal rate, the board has extended the deadline of the scheme for the purpose till June 30, the Delhi government said in a statement. The board approved the extension of the scheme of regularisation of unauthorised water connection at a nominal amount of Rs 500 per connection for Domestic consumer and Rs 1,500 for Commercial/Industrial connections till June 30. By the implementation of the scheme, the board will bring more and more consumers under its authorised water connection ambit.
