Complaints against Love Commandos pour in

Inmates allege extortion, torture at shelter home

New Delhi: In the past four days, more than six written complaints related to cases of extortion and torture of inmates have been received by the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) against the Sanjoy Sachdev's NGO Love Commandos. Police claimed that the investigation is going on from all angles in the case.

According to DCW, following the raid by Delhi Commission for Women on shelter home run by the NGO Love Commando and arrest of its Chairman Sanjoy Sachdeva four days ago, many cases of extortion and torture of inmates have come to light.

In the last few days, the Commission has received numerous e-mails and calls from couples who have suffered terribly at the hands of Sachdeva and his cronies Harsh and Sonu.

"The complaints show that the pattern of torture was similar-extortion, confinement, seizure of documents, forceful consumption of liquor, mental torture through the use of abusive language and demand for money," said a DCW official.

The couples have alleged that the marriage certificates issued to them in court, along with their date of birth certificates, college degrees and original Aadhaar cards were seized by Sachdeva. The women were made to wash utensils and clean the premises, while demand for more money continued. The couples who were able to pay more money on demand got their papers back and were allowed to leave the shelter. The rest were confined in the shelter and were abused.

The complaints have been forwarded to the DCP Central by the Commission. Swati Maliwal, Chairperson of Delhi Commission of Women (DCW), has said that the Commission is deeply shocked at the growing instances of complaints against the NGO Love Commandos. She said, "in the name of helping young couples, he ran an extortion racket and exploited their vulnerability. I hope that the Delhi Police thoroughly investigates the matter and strongest action is taken against Sachdeva and his cronies."

"Innumerable calls have been received by our helpline. One complaint has also been received from a couple settled in UK. All are being sent to the police," said DCW. According to Delhi Police, they are investigating the case from all angles and questioning is going on. Delhi Police on last Wednesday had arrested Sanjoy Sachdev, chairman of NGO Love Commandos, in Paharganj for threatening and extorting money from a couple.
