Complaint against Eco Green workers for burning garbage

Gurugram: Amidst controversies over a long time for not performing its duty well, there have now been allegations against Eco Green workers of burning garbage in the greenbelt of the Aravallis. The complaint has been sent to public agencies namely the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) and Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB), where the local residents have demanded action against the company and its workers.

To control pollution, there is a law that waste should not be burnt in open. Despite a stringent, large-scale violation continue to be reported. In its defense, the Eco Green company has categorically stated that its workers were not involved in the open burning of garbage. As per the contract, the Chinese company was supposed to collect the garbage from the homes of the residents, transport it to Bandhwari and then recycle it. Disappointingly for the residents, the initiative introduced in Gurugram and Faridabad has not borne fruit. The garbage is neither being collected nor being recycled. The waste from Gurugram and Faridabad is only adding to the mounds of garbage being piled up at Bandhwari. Besides levying the collection fee from the residents, the Eco Green company was also being paid by the MCG.

With the challenge of waste management still prevalent in the city, the MCG has sounded optimistic that steps are being taken to ensure citizens effectively segregate wastes generated in their homes, but not many seem to be impressed by the claims of the MCG. Further, there have also been complaints that vacant areas around the colonies are being used by the MCG officials to dump garbage.
