Committee formed to resolve encroachment of PWD roads

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Assembly on Monday formed a five-member committee to suggest solutions for tackling the problem of encroachment on roads of the Public Works Department (PWD).
The panel will work in coordination with the Assembly's Standing Committee on Public Utilities and Civic Amenities.
Aam Aadmi Party MLAs Madan Lal, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Naresh, Jagdish Pradhan and Om Prakash Sharma have been named as the members of the committee, which will suggest solutions to tackle encroachment on PWD's roads and study laws of other states to remove the same.
Delhi PWD Minister Satyendar Jain told the House that the Department does not have power to remove encroachments even on its roads.
Municipal Corporations have the power to remove encroachments on city's roads.
Jain said around 35 legislators have handed over a written complaint to him on encroachment on roads in their respective constituencies.
He also said that the encroachments often stop fire tenders and ambulances from reaching places on time.
