CM slams Sheila Dikshit-led Congress tenure in Delhi

Kejriwal attcked former CM during a rally at Gokalpur in North East Delhi

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday slammed former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit-led Congress tenure in Delhi over development issues.

"If Sheila Ji worked properly then government schools would not have been in such a poor state, neither health system and the price of electricity would not have increased that much," the CM said during a rally at Gokalpur in North East Delhi.

On the other hand, accusing the Centre of creating hurdles in Delhi's development, the AAP leader said he faced obstructions at various stages to get clearances from the central government.

"Delhi would get nothing by making Congress president Rahul Gandhi a prime minister or reelecting Narendra Modi. Their parties did nothing for the national capital but just led to its people" Kejriwal said.

He said the people of Delhi pay Rs 1.5 lakh crore as Income Tax and receive only Rs 325 crore from the Centre.

"Why should we pay so much and get so less in return? What have Delhiites done to the central government to deserving this? The situation is similar to the time before India got independence. "First Britishers looted us, now the central government is looting us," the chief minister said.

"Just for the political rivalry, PM Modi stopped the development work for the common man of Delhi. Last time you voted for him, but this time do not vote for him. Otherwise, he would not let me work for development," he added.

The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the city is fighting the Lok Sabha election on the agenda of granting full statehood to Delhi.

From healthcare, housing, electricity, education, the safety of women to stopping sealing, Kejriwal made a host of promises if Delhi becomes a full state, which will be possible, he claimed, if Delhi chooses AAP candidates from all seven Lok Sabha seats.

Some works can't be done till Delhi becomes a full state. Women feel unsafe and there is hooliganism everywhere because Delhi Police doesn't listen to people," CM Kejriwal said. "The police come under the PM and no one can meet the PM," said the CM. If Delhi Police reports to Delhi government, he said, the law and order system will be such that girls will be able to go out at 11 pm without any fear. Sealing will also be stopped in 24 hours, CM Kejriwal promised.
