Civic bodies to submit details on notification of roads by Jan 22: Jain

NEW DELHI: After the war of words between the state government and the civic agencies over the issue of notification on 351 roads in Delhi heat up, Urban Development Minister Satyendar Jain on Friday said the three municipal corporations will soon furnish necessary details to take the matter forward. The mayors of North, South and East Delhi Municipal Corporations agreed on this after the meeting, asserted Jain.
However, the municipal agencies blamed that the government is not interested in this matter. "We have asked from the corporations proper paperwork to check compliance with the Master Plan of Delhi norms. I asked them to submit it in two days but they (mayors) said, they will submit it by January 22," the minister said. The three civic bodies and the Delhi government have been engaged in a war of words over notification on 351 roads in the city for commercial or mixed-land use.
Earlier Jain said, "The government wrote five times to the three civic bodies in the last two years but practically no response has been received from them." The minister on Thursday had sent a letter, mentioning "lack of response" from them. The civic bodies have been saying that the notification has been "pending with the government".
Meanwhile, after the meeting Kamaljeet Sehrawat, the Mayor of SDMC said, "The claim of the minister in the meeting that the MCDs have not been able to send reply on the subject despite five requests being sent by the government. It may be recalled that the MCD in the meetings of Standing Committee and the House approved a list of 307 roads for notification as commercial, mixed land use and pedestrian shopping street and a letter to the government."
She also said that the attitude of the AAP-led government, is far from principles of natural justice and the government has been nurturing its political interests.
