Civic bodies ramp up demolition drive

The Building departments of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and North Delhi Municipal Corporation (North MCD) on Friday continued their demolition drive for the second consecutive day.
SDMC has so far demolished seven properties in Chhattarpur, Panchsheel Vihar, Khirki Extension, Mochi Gaon-Nanakpura, Begumpur Village, Kishangarh etc.
Officials said the properties were razed in such a manner that they cannot be reused for any purpose.
Two properties were also sealed after taking demolition actions.
Meanwhile, North MCD removed about 50 illegally developed shops, including some decades-old structures, from Hanuman Temple area at Yamuna Ghat. Around 25 unauthorised shops of flower vendors were also removed.
The civic body claimed that illegally developed shops and jhuggis were hindering the passage for people visiting temples and removal of encroachments will come as a breather.
Moreover, about 25 jhuggis were removed from near Hanuman Setu.
Senior officers of both Corporations said that they are committed to implement the recently formulated action plan in true spirit against unauthorised constructions.
The civic bodies have decided to adopt zero tolerance against illegal constructions and have asked their respective zonal enforcement machinery to pull up its socks in order to propagate the need of planned development.
For this purpose, the agencies have simplified the building plan sanction mechanism so as to encourage people to get their plans sanctioned online without any hassle and delay.
