Citizens start online petition to expedite construction of Dwarka expressway

GURUGRAM: No one can relate more to the challenges in the growth and expansion of Gurugram than 90,000 homebuyers of Dwarka Expressway as the residents have been demanding since long for the completion of 28 kilometres road that will lead to the growth of social infrastructure in the area.
However, legal hurdles in land acquisition and inadequate compensation provided to villagers have resulted in the project prolonging since 2007. In order to put pressure on the government, certain residents have taken an online route to put forth the difficulties faced by them.
"In Dwarka Expressway we are living in Stone Age, no light, no water, security, sewerage, roads and hospitals. School children must be brought from all over the city to demonstrate what Stone Age in the urban scenario looks like," says Sushil Kumar.
A grievance that is being shared by lakhs of homebuyers from Delhi-NCR was expressed by Sanjay Singh who said, "We are moving to poor category slowly by paying the rents and easy monthly instalments (EMI)."
Most of the home owners of Dwarka Expressway have been demanding for having fast track courts on the cases of Dwarka Expressway so that basic amenities can be provided in the area.
Meanwhile, the HUDA officials on their part have maintained that barring few stretched where construction is not happening due to the stay order, developmental activities along the other stretch is occurring at a fast pace. "Due to stay order from the court, developmental activities along certain sections of Northern Peripheral Road have not been happening. However, due to a proactive approach, we hope to get the matters resolved soon and the Northern Peripheral Road will be completed this year. For the benefit of home owners a linkage of Dwarka Expressway with NH-8 will also be set up," said a senior official from HUDA.
"Even as the challenges remain we are overcoming it gradually. While there may be complaints of legal issues slowing down the work in Northern Peripheral Road, developmental works at the Southern Peripheral road have begun at full swing," added the HUDA official.
