Children were first to witness the shooting incident

New Delhi: Two teenage boys became the witnesses to the shooting incident on Sunday in north west Delhi's Yograj Colony where a man shot a woman and then himself.

It was around 8.30 pm on Sunday, Burari road was as usual busy when the resident of Yograj colony heard gun shots.

On the first instance, they thought it was a sound of some motorcycle but later they saw some children running towards the road near Coronation Park after which their parents also visited the place and witnessed a horrific scene of two persons, including a woman, lying on the road with bullet injuries.

According to police on Sunday, a man shot himself dead after leaving a woman critically injured in Burari Road area.

The incident took place because of the estranged relationship between the two and due to sudden provocation, the man took out a pistol and shot the woman first and then shot himself dead, leaving a suicide note which stated about the bitterness in their relationship. The woman was admitted to hospital where she was reported to be stable.

Talking to Millennium Post, the residents of the colony stated that the incident took place after all the shops and park was closed. The roads were busy and the commuters did not notice why the couples were having an argument.

Two 13-year-old boys Rohit and Sahil with their other friends were returning home after playing football when they heard the gun shot and ran towards the spot.

"I saw a woman lying on the ground and crying for help. A man was standing next to her, holding a pistol," said Rohit.

Another resident Manisha was working in the house when he heard the sound but thought of motorcycle noise but she saw a gathering and reached the spot.

"A person tried to save the woman but the accused fired a shot in the air and then no one came forward to help," said the woman.Deputy Commissioner of Police (north-west) Milind Dumbere stated that the woman was reported to be stable. An investigator of the case stated that the woman, who has a 9-year-old son was in the relationship with him from past several years. The woman wanted to end the relationship which was objected by the accused.

"Yes, he had come with a weapon it might be the man wanted to kill himself but the fight at the spot led him to shot the woman before killing himself," said an investigator.
