Certificates, mark sheets to cost double at JNU

New Delhi: Availing basic documents like mark sheets, migration certificates and copies of answer sheets at Jawaharlal Nehru University will now become dearer as students will have to pay double charges to get issued the documents from the varsity. "JNU Administration in a unilateral imposition of its anti-student polices has now doubled the fees for basic documentation for collecting no dues, degree certificates, migration and etc. It's unfortunate that from the time Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar took over as VC, the only thing JNU seeing is privatisation, commercialisation and corporatiaation of public spaces," said N Sai Balaji, JNUSU president.

The notice issued by the Deputy Registrar on October 22 states that the revised fee structure was approved at the Academic Council meeting held previously. The issued notice reads that the cost of the provisional degree certificate and migration certificate has increased from 50 rupees to 100 rupees, the duplicate copy of the consolidates mark sheets has gone up from 100 to 200 rupees. So has the cost of duplicate copies of provisional certificates and semester grade certificates. The duplicate degree certificate cost has increased from Rs 200 to Rs 500 while the duplicate migration certificate has gone from Rs 200 to Rs 400.

Calling the move unfair, the JNUSU is raising its voice against this sudden doubling of fees. They raised two main points with regard to the issue –the students claim they weren't invited to the JNUSU Academic Council meeting when the fee revival was discussed. The second point they raised was that the agenda for the fee hike was placed in the second part of the meeting which is against the rules.

According to the norms of the meeting, all students and fee-related issues need to be discussed in part 'A' of

the Academic Council

meeting.
