Centre vs Delhi govt: AAP govt urges SC to pass early verdict

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government counsels on Thursday placed the matter of Centre Vs Delhi government in front of the bench headed by Justice AK Sikri to pronounce the verdict as its a matter of governance. Justice Sikri informed the counsels that the matter is with Justice Ashok Bhushan now and the bench would finish the matter soon. "Matter was again mentioned by us before Justice AK Sikri's bench requesting for pronouncement of judgment as governance was suffering. J Sikri confirmed that the judgment is now with Justice Bhushan & he will request his brother to finalise it at the earliest," tweeted Delhi government's counsel Rahul Mehra.

This came after senior advocate Indira Jaising, representing the Delhi government asked when the bench headed by Justice AK Sikri will pass the judgment on the matter to which Sikri replied it will be done soon. The Arvind Kejriwal led government had said that its functioning was virtually paralysed due to the fact that it

cannot order transfer or posting of officers despite the July 4 verdict of the apex court on Delhi administration. In that, the court handed a major victory to Kejriwal by ruling that the L-G has no independent power to take decisions and is bound by the elected government's advice.
