Celebratory firing at wedding claims woman in Gr Noida

Greater Noida: A 56-year-old woman died after a bullet shot during celebratory firing at a wedding in Greater Noida's Badalpur hit her in the chest on Wednesday.
According to police, the incident occurred around 9.30 am in Shadipur Chirroli village when the deceased Iqrar Begum was standing near the gate of her house. Several bullets were fired as part of the Ghudchadi ceremony and while she Iqrara Begum was dancing, one of the bullets struck her.
Locals said 28-year-old Saddam, the victim's nephew, had fired several bullets in the air.
"Initially, we thought that she had fainted. But when we saw blood running out of her chest, we realised a bullet fired by Saddam hit her," a local said.
Locals immediately informed police and Iqrar Begum was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared brought dead on arrival.
Police said the accused, who is absconding, had fired with a country-made pistol.
"The villagers had assembled for wedding ceremony of a resident Firoz" said Mukesh Kumar, SHO, Badalpur Police station.
"Based on the complaint filed by Yamin, the deceased woman's husband, a case under IPC section 302 (murder) has been registered against the accused. We have launched a manhunt to nab him," added Kumar.
