CBSE's class 12th paper leak: Charge sheet filed against 10

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Thursday filed the chargesheet against 10 people in CBSE's class 12 economics paper leak case. The 482 pages chargesheet has elaborated on the role of the accused in the infamous paper leak. The exam centre Superintendent of Jawahar Navodaya Public School, Pekhubela, Una Himachal Pradesh Rakesh Sharma was also chargesheeted for his role. No student was named in the chargesheet. CBSE was forced to reconduct the class XII Economics exam on April 25. "We have filed a chargesheet in the class 12th Economics paper leak case. A total of 10 arrests have been made in the case and their role elaborated in the charegesheet," said DCP Crime, Ram Gopal Naik.

On March 26 this year, an envelope containing copies of four images of handwritten question paper of Economics paper was delivered at CBSE headquarter. As per the contents of the complaint made by Regional Director CBSE Delhi, prima facie, a case u/s 406/420/120B IPC was made. Hence an FIR was registered. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted, comprising of Joint Commissioner of Police, two DCP, six ACP and five Inspectors of crime branch. Detailed technical analysis, tracing of digital footprints and field intelligence led the investigation to Una District in Himachal Pradesh. Later Delhi Police crime branch reached Una District and apprehended one person identified as Rakesh Kumar.

On interrogation, he disclosed he is taught in DAV Centenary Public School, Una in Himachal Pradesh and that he was appointed as the exam centre Superintendent in Jawahar Navodaya Public School Pekhubela, Una, Himachal Pradesh. The duty assigned to him was to collect the question paper from the Union Bank of India, Una, Himachal Pradesh and to bring these papers to the examination centre.

On March 23, Rakesh along with a school clerk, named Amit Kumar and the school peon Ashok Kumar went to Union Bank of India and collected the question papers of Computer Science and Information Practices. When he collected question paper from the strongroom of Union Bank of India, Una, he too took a small bundle of Economics paper which contained five papers of Economics, which was to be held on 26 March 2018.

Amit made a small incision in the bundle and took out one economics paper, photographed it and Whatsapped it to Rakesh. Rakesh, in turn, called one of his student of class XII who used to take tuition from him, who reduced it in her handwriting and thereafter Rakesh uploaded this handwritten Question paper of Economics in his mobile. Later on, Rakesh Kumar sent this uploaded Question paper to one of his relatives, the same was circulated by viral through WhatsApp.

The class X Mathematics paper was also leaked and 6 arrests were made. The chargesheet, in this case, would be filed later.
