CBI nabs GST Inspector for bribery in Noida

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested a Central GST Inspector in Noida for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 in exchange for releasing the complainant's vehicle, officials here said.

The CBI registered a case against Virendra Kumar, part of the E-Way Bill Team II in Noida based on a complaint where Kumar was accused of demanding the bribe amount. The complainant alleged that Kumar had held his vehicle containing scrap in Noida and was demanding a bribe to release it.

Realising that he did not want to pay the bribe amount, the complainant went to the CBI with his woes. Subsequently, in a covert operation, CBI sleuths laid a trap for Kumar and caught him red-handed demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs 30,000.

The probe agency also conducted searches at official and residential premises of the accused.
