Carjackers swapped car keys to steal cars, divert attention

NEW DELHI: A team of Inter-border Gangs Investigation Squad of the Crime Branch has busted a gang of inter-state auto lifters and arrested four people including the gang leader Mohit alias Langda.
Police said on Wednesday that the four arrested persons have been identified as Mohit Sharma, Sandeep Kumar, Deepak Kumar and Feroz.
Sharma belongs to Bulandshasar in Uttar Pradesh, while the remaining accused are residents of Delhi.
Police also recovered two stolen Ciaz & Swift cars, nine motorcycles, two country-made pistols along with two live cartridges and 22 stolen keys used by the gang to steal different luxurious cars.
The gang have stolen more than 100 luxurious cars from Delhi in the current year alone, police said.
The accused used to target vehicles in early morning at the time of cleaning of vehicle by servant and drivers.
They used to replace the key of the target car with another similar key and when the driver leaves the place they used to steal the car with the original car.
Each member of the gang had specific role to play.
"The accused used to target the luxury and high end cars as it would fetch them good money.
The stolen car was later dismantled in Meerut and its parts were sold in grey market," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Alok Kumar.
