Car glass breaking gang operating in posh areas busted

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has arrested a gang infamous for breaking the glass of the car and stealing cash, laptops and mobiles.

Four persons have been arrested including the receivers of the stolen property. They have been identified as Varun, Vikas, Kishore and Babu.

They were actively involved in incidents of bag lifting in the area of Connaught Place and had expertise in stealing articles after breaking the window glass of parked vehicles and recovered Rs 5 lakh cash, one mobile phone, 10 laptops, one revolver, two live cartridges, one arm license and many documents from their possession.

On the evening of December 7, the complainant, a resident of Patparganj, visited Mandir Marg area and parked his vehicle on Mandir Marg. When he returned to his vehicle, he found the side window glass of his vehicle was broken and his laptop bag containing Rs 5 lakh cash, Apple Mac Book, 1 Arm License and some important documents were stolen.

The gang struck back to back and in another incident in the evening of December 8, the complainant reported theft of diamond earrings kept in shopping bags by breaking the side window glass of his vehicle which was parked in the parking lot outside gate number 4 of Rajiv Park Metro Station.

On December 9 at about 4 am, all the accused persons were apprehended from Inderpuri area on secret information, while they were trying to dispose off the stolen stuff. The stolen stuff was recovered from them. "During interrogation, all accused persons confessed to being involved in above mentioned theft cases.

Accused Babu, Vikas and Kishore disclosed that they are usually visiting Delhi and NCR since long and committing bag lifting by breaking the window glass of the parked vehicles.

They target only the posh areas, top class busy markets, gold market areas of Delhi and NCR where high-end transactions are made and people carry handsome amount, jewellery items, costly electronic gadgets like camera, laptop, and mobile phones.

"One accused Varun told that stolen laptops were sold to one Satyendra who supplies that stuff in spare parts like display, ram, hard disk, battery, body cabinet, speakers, keypad, touch pad, DVD-writer etc at Karol Bagh and Nehru Place Markets," said DCP New Delhi Madhur Verma.
