Cabinet to soon clear proposal for 1,000 low-floor AC buses

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has asked the Principal Secretary of the Transport Department's to prepare proposals of 1,000 low-floor air-conditioned buses and put up proposal in the next Cabinet meeting. Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot briefed media persons at the Delhi Secretariat after presentation of various bus models.

In a much required move, the Delhi government has decided to procure 1,000 slow-floor buses, AC buses in the current financial year.

Gahlot said that the tender process for 1,000 standard buses have been done after clearances from the Court. It is likely to be added in DTC fleets in next four-five months.

"As many as 1,000 new buses will be added to DTC fleet in order to boost the public transport system in the national Capital," he said.

"The government plans to float tenders for 1,000 electric buses by December so that the zero-emissions vehicles are rolled out in the next five to six months," Gahlot added, as he launched an e-bus for trial here.

The bus, manufactured by PMI Electro Mobility Solution Pvt Ltd in collaboration with Foton, China, has a capacity of 33 seats, safety features such as four CCTV cameras with panic button, and a DC fast charging facility capable of fully charging the bus within 30 minutes.

"A report will be submitted by Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System (DIMTS) in one month and we intend to float the tender for e-buses in December so that buses are available in next 5-6 months," Gahlot told reporters.
