Boy gets admit card for board exam after intervention by DCW

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) helped a mother after she sought it help over the denial of her son's admit card for the CBSE Board examination, due to non-submission of school fees for six months.

Soon after the complaint was registered, a member of the Commission swung into action and issued a summons to the school authorities to immediately handover the boy's admit card.

A private school in Mungeshpur area in Delhi had denied admit card to Akash for his 12th class board examinations due to non-payment of school fees for six months.

Akash's mother Poonam was unable to pay the fees due to sudden death of his father, which left the family in a severe financial crunch. Later, Poonam approached the Commission after which her ward got his admit card.

"Akash's father had severe kidney damage which required immediate treatment. Somehow, we managed to pay the money for his operation. We also had to sell off our house to afford the treatment," said Poonam. She stated that soon after the operation her husband passed away. "We had already spent a lot on medical treatments. So, we had no money to pay the school fees and did not have any place to live," she added. Earlier, Poonam had approached MLA of her constituency seeking help for the same. However, he had told Poonam that she will be informed if any order is passed in this regard.

She also informed the Commission that she was living in a shanty near her old house. As board exams were soon to commence, DCW member Sarika Choudhary summoned the school authorities to the Commission. The director and principal of the school went to the Commission. They were counselled that Akash's life was at stake and they should not ruin it.

The DCW member recommended that the admit card to be issued. After this, school authorities gave written assurance to the Commission that they will soon give Akash the admit card and also waive off the boy's pending fees.
