Body of premature female foetus found inside bag in south east Delhi

NEW DELHI: A deceased premature female foetus was found in south east Delhi's Sarita Vihar on Friday afternoon.
Delhi Police sourced said that around 12.30 pm, a ragpicker in the area noticed a polybag inside some bushes near an abandoned piece of land in Okhla Vihar.
On opening the bag, he found some clothes and the foetus wrapped in plastic inside. He immediately alerted the locals, who later informed police. Soon, a police team reached the spot and made basic inquiries and questioned locals whether they saw someone dumping a bag in the area.
Sources said that the area has been abandoned for some time, with a residential colony situated nearby.
The abandoned land is used as a dumping ground by nearby residents, they added.
"The ragpicker accidently found the packet and found the foetus inside it. He panicked and informed the locals. Soon, there was a big crowd and police was informed," said a local resident.
"An emergency response vehicle and emergency officer rushed to the spot near Okhla vihar and found an dead premature foetus of a female in the sealed plastic bag. It seems to be a five-six months old. A case under section 318 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Sarita Vihar police station," Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Chinmoy Biswal said on Friday.The dead foetus was later shifted to AIIMS for further proceedings.
