BJP councillor Sunita Kangra elected new mayor of SDMC

New Delhi: BJP councillor from Madipur ward Sunita Knagra has been elected to the post of Mayor in the house meeting of SDMC. Another BJP councilor from Kakrola ward has also been elected unanimously to the post of Deputy Mayor.

After taking over the new assignment, Kangra while listing her priorities stated SDMC elects Sunita Kangra as Mayor that she will work for improvement in sanitation, expansion of education facilities including quality education in schools and tackle the problem of parking in the city. The challenges in Delhi are growing with urbanization. Stressing upon the need of making Swachhata a result oriented effort.

She underlined the need of making Swachhata efforts a more powerful public movement. She added that the shortage of sanitation employees will be taken care and efforts will be made to overcome the shortage. Answering a question related to financial difficulties in the corporation Kangra stated that during 2018-19 properties tax collection witnessed substantial hike; it reached Rs 944 crore. It is expected that the collection will cross Rs 1,000 crore during next financial year. The new Mayor stated that we all will work together to provide all modern amenities in SDMC localities.

She has been active in BJP for the last two decades. She held responsible positions in the party organization like Secretary in the Delhi Mahila Morcha and District level BJP. She has been elected from Madipur ward as BJP nominee in 2017 elections. For the first time BJP has won this seat. She is a graduate from Delhi University.

Five nominations were filled for the three vacant posts of member in the standing committee. With withdrawal of nomination by AAP councilor Abdul Wajid Khan and BJP councilor Colonnel BK Obroi the remaining nominees of BJP Narendra Chawla and Bhupendra Gupta and Congress Ved Pal have been declared as elected members.
