Biker thief, inspired by Bollywood villains, arrested

NEW DELHI: Inspired by stylish robbers in Bollywood movies, a 25-year-old man began committing theft on his motorcycle in the city.
However, Roshan Lal, alias Chota Rajan, had a short innings in crime, as he was arrested by South West Delhi Police from Uttam Nagar, for his involvement in multiple cases of snatchings and robberies committed in Dwarka area.
The accused was reportedly inspired by the character Kabir, portrayed by John Abraham in the Hindi blockbuster 'Dhoom'.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Shibesh Singh on Thursday stated the accused was addicted to watching biking stunts on YouTube and would imitate them on his own motorbike.
Since his childhood, he had been committing petty offenses. Over time, he graduated to committing auto theft and would spend his ill-gotten money to fuel his lavish lifestyle and for partying.
A team of police officials led by ACP (Operations) Aditya Gautam was formed to nab him.
On November 29, cops received a tip that Roshan Lal would come to Peepal Chowk, in Uttam Nagar's Mohan Garden area to meet an associate.
He was arrested from the spot by the Anti Auto Theft Squad of South West District.
Police said that the accused is a school dropout and had been arrested in an attempt to murder case in 2012 at Hari Nagar police station.
A pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from his possession. His arrest also solved about one dozen cases of snatchings and robberies in south west District.
