Bentley crash: Delhi court grants bail to Asees Chadha

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Thursday granted bail to Asees Singh Chadha, who was arrested after his speeding Bentley car rammed into an auto-rickshaw killing a foreign national and leaving three persons injured in Lutyen's Delhi.

The Delhi Police said that they opposed the bail plea of the accused. Additional Sessions Judge Sudesh Kumar granted relief to Chadha on furnishing a bail bond of Rs 2 lakh and two sureties of the like amount.

A magisterial court had on Wednesday dismissed his bail plea. Shortly after the rejection of the bail, Asees Chadha complained of chest pain and uneasiness and got himself admitted in the RML

Hospital. So, Chadha, who is having a British Passport did not spend a day in the jail and on Thursday was granted bail.

A 51-year-old Turkmenistan national, Gulshat Alijanova, was killed, while three persons — Raghubir Singh, the auto-driver and a resident of Sangam Vihar, and Turkmenistan nationals Alma Gul Atayeba (33) and Gulia Yyam (55) — were critically injured on Monday in the accident. A case was registered against Chadha under Section 279 (rash driving) and 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder, punishable with life imprisonment) of the Indian Penal Code, the police had said.

Chadha is a nephew of business tycoon Ponty Chadha, who was killed along with his brother in 2012 after both sides opened fired at each other. Earlier Rajkumar who works in the horticulture department in Chanakyapuri said that he was just walking when he heard a strong thud on Monday. What he saw next was the most horrific sight of his life.

A speeding Betley car has rammed a stationary auto which was standing at a red light.

The impact was so hard that two persons one woman and the auto driver were thrown out of the auto while two women were struck in the badly damaged auto.

Later, one of the woman succumbed to injuries in the AIIMS Trauma centre.
