Bawana bypoll: Cong, AAP candidates file nomination

The process for by-election to the Bawana Assembly constituency has started gaining momentum, with the Congress candidate Surendra Kumar and Aam Aadmi Party candidate Ramchandra on Wednesday filing their nomination papers.
Accompanied by AAP Delhi convenor Gopal Rai and other party leaders, Ramchandra filed his nomination at the DC office in Alipur.
Meanwhile, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken, addressing the media, said that the party candidate is "honest and dedicated and served the people of the area for 15 years as an MLA."
The bypoll was necessitated after AAP MLA Ved Parkash quit the Assembly to join Bharatiya Janata Party, before the municipal elections earlier this year. Parkash will now contest on a BJP ticket for the Bawana bypoll, scheduled to be held on August 23.
As per norms, by-election in an Assembly constituency should be held within six months of it falling vacant.
