Atul Sood elected new JNUTA president

New Delhi: Atul Sood has been elected president of Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Association (JNUTA), with his panel making a clean sweep of all the posts.

His opponent Milap Punia polled 152 votes in the election held on Thursday, the results of which were announced in the wee hours of Friday.

The new JNUTA vice-presidents are Ajit Khanna and Chirashree Dasgupta, who polled in a total of 518 votes.

Avinash Kumar has won the post of secretary, while Amit Parmeshwaran and Parnal Chirmule were elected as joint secretaries. Rakesh Kumar has won the treasurer post.

The teachers informed that the voter turnout was between 90 pre cent and 91 per cent.

Sood's left-leaning panel said that the greatest challenge that the new JNUTA would face was to resist the ongoing institutional destruction and restore the culture of dissent, discussion, deliberation and constructive consultation between the various stakeholders of the university.
