Army truck mows down one, injures another

NEW DELHI: An Army truck reportedly mowed down a man and injured another, both travelling on a motorcycle, near Chanakyapuri in New Delhi area on Wednesday morning.
"We have registered a case under section 279 and 304 A. The driver of the Army has been identified as Shikato Sema, from the Assam regiment. He was apprehended and handed over to the Army for further action," said a senior police officer.
The deceased was identified as Naushad, a resident of Seelampur. He was riding pillon on the bike driven by his friend Mohammad Arif, who is a resident of the same place. Both worked as a carpenter.
"We got to know about the death of my brother-in-law Naushad through our relatives. We immediately rushed to the hospital. It is a very tragic moment for us. He got married 12 years ago and recently adopted a girl from our relatives, since he had no child," said Waqeela, the victim's sister-in-law.
The two men were on their way to Palam, where they had been hired for some carpenter work. After being hit by the car, Naushad died on the spot, while Arif sustained minor injuries in the accident.
