Army man held for killing one in accidental firing

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has finally cracked the case of murder of a person with gunshot injury in an accidental firing by an ex-Army man in Welcome area of North East Delhi.

The incident happened on November 30 when two men working in an auto repair shop sustained bullet injuries from inside a car parked outside the shop. One of the injured Bhanu Pratap succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the hospital. Another man, a resident of Jafrabad, survived the bullet injuries. The cops launched a manhunt for the unidentified killer.

Later, during the course of investigation the eyewitnesses present at spot revealed that a gunshot was fired from a Datsun car having army logo on both the number plates and the car driver had come to attend a marriage. Thereafter inquires were made regarding the marriage in the area. It was revealed that another marriage function was also going on near Shiv Mandir and the Barat has gone to Nangloi.

Next day, the CCTV cameras of Kabir Nagar, Babar Pur, Kardam Puri areas were checked. After that exercise, a Datsun Car, Colour Dark Gray, having army logo at both the number plates was recognised in Kabir Nagar. The car was registered in the name of Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Meerut Cantt UP. However, on technical surveillance, police arrested the accused Rajesh Kumar.

"The accused disclosed that he had joined Indian Army and during his posting in J&K he procured an Arms license from Doda Distt, J&K. Thereafter, he purchased a double barrel half gun. In 2006, he left the job of Army and got recruited in Defence Security Core and at present he is posted at Jaat Regiment, Meerut Cantt as a constable. He had come to Delhi with his family to attend the marriage in his Datsun Car and decided to follow the Barat bus," said DCP, North East, A K Singla.

When he was waiting for Barat Bus, he decided to put the gun in cover. When he was putting the gun in the cover, trigger of the gun was pressed and the gun misfired which hit the persons who were working at Himanshu Motors. Then he had gone to Nagloi at the place of function and dropped his wife there and fled away.
