Armed robbers steal SUV from outside Amity University in Noida

Noida: Four armed robbers snatched an SUV car from the driver of a senior Supreme Court lawyer at gunpoint outside Amity University here on Wednesday afternoon and kept the driver hostage in the car before dumping him at a secluded place.

The driver Arun Kumar told police that he had come to drop his employer's daughter to the university and was sitting in the car outside the varsity's gate, when the theft occurred.

"At around 1.30 pm, four men approached him and started talking to him. They then forcibly sat in the car, pointed a gun on his head and directed him to follow instructions," read the complaint.

The accused kept the driver hostage for around 90 minutes, before they dumped him at a secluded spot at Sector-148 and fleeing away with the car.

They also snatched his mobile phone and wallet. Later, with the help of a passerby, Kumar call his employer's daughter and informed police.

Police officials said that the Toyota Fortuner car belongs to AN Rao, a resident of Sector-27 of Noida.

"Based on the complaint received, a case under relevant sections has been registered. We are scanning through the CCTV footage from the area to ascertain the identity of the accused. The registration details of the vehicle have been shared among the area staff and local informers to gather details about the car's location," said Amit Kishor Shrivastava, Circle Officer-I, Noida.
