After mockdrill, trial run for pedestrianisation on Sunday

NEW DELHI: For pedestrianisation at Connaught Place, NDMC carried out a mock drill on Saturday for the scheduled trial run on June 30 (Sunday) and June 6 (Monday) from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The objective of this exercise is to improve vehicular movement, regulate parking and facilitate ease of movement for pedestrians.

The major interventions during the trial run shall be restricted entry to inner circle, only CP-destined vehicle will be allowed to park in dedicated parking lots and underground Palika parking, direct entry from Radial -1 & Radial -4 to be restricted, Auto or taxi will have restricted access to Inner Circle and will only be allowed to use middle circle for exit to outer circle. Designated pick and drop facilities for taxi and auto shall be operated from six zones on the Radial roads.

For convenience of commuters, NDMC shall depute traffic police Consultants, Civic Wardens and Security staff from NDMC, along with Traffic Police. There shall be no change in current entry and exits to Inner Circle and parking in Inner Circle so as to avoid inconvenience to both business entity and visitors.

"Satuday's mock drill received a positive response from people. Many of the students who visit CP on daily basis shared their excitement for pedestrianization. One of the students said, "controlled traffic movement will help pedestrians to walk freely," said a senior officer.

NDMC task force was appreciated for guiding traffic in a comprehensive manner. This also helped to deter non-CP-destined traffic to enter inner circle & for using it as a thoroughfare.
