After councilors, now contractors protest against MCG Mayor

Gurugram: Troubles do not seem to end for mayor Madhu Azad. A day after 19 councilors demanded the resignation of the mayor's team now over 100 contractors deployed in the municipal body have also begun to voice their protest against the mayor and her team. The contractors have squared the blame completely on the mayor and her team for rampant corruption prevalent in the municipal body.

"It is a common knowledge that how corrupt the joint engineers are in awarding the tenders. With no action being initiated against the corrupt officials even the computer operators have become corrupt in asking for a cut. Because of the rampant corruption, there is no work which is being done in Gurugram," said Manish, one of the contractors. Manish further added, "The biggest scam is also in the recruitment of the officials. All those public officials who have retired rejoin as senior consultants and inturn use their power to make money."

It is, however, is mired in corruption dealing that amounts to the recruitment of the employees to awarding of the tenders. Reportedly grave allegations have been leveled against the joint engineer who was asking the cut of one percent of tenders amounting to Rs 10 lakh and more. There have been various charges of corruption that have been leveled at MCG especially on the issue of not penalising the residential properties that operate as illegal guesthouses and commercial complexes.
