After brief encounter, auto lifter arrested

New Delhi: A 38-year-old auto lifter who tried to run over police personnel arrested after brief encounter in West Delhi's Punjabi Bagh area. Police identified the accused as Safeek.

On February 9, while conducting patrolling in the area, Head Constable (HC) Rishi Raj noticed a Duster SUV car parked on roadside in Punjabi Bagh in a suspicious condition later it was found stolen

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bharadwaj said that they laid trap near the Duster car. Later, police team saw that a car came at high speed and stopped near the targeted Duster.

"The police team immediately surrounded both the cars and signaled them to stop. The driver of the car accelerated the engine in a very violent and tried to drive over the police team," said DCP Bharadwaj.

The Police team has to jump aside in order to escape themselves from getting run over by it.

The accused then fired on the police team.

In retaliation, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Naresh fired two shots on the rear tyre of the Duster, which resulted in deflating the tyre.

In the meantime, Constable (Ct) Himmat, Ct Karamvir and HC Vinod hit the windscreen of Duster car with Lathis and Duster car hit a Eucalyptus tree and finally stopped.

The driver of the Duster was overpowered.

Police claimed that the accused used to target the car to be stolen then open it with the help of sophisticated gadgets, disable the electronic lock system, GPRs and other security system of the car, break the ignition locks and make the new remote as well as magnetic keys with their equipments by attaching a machine in the electrical system of car and connect it with their machine with Bluetooth in other car.

They used to change the frequencies of the remote and magnetic keys in such a way that after this car will not accept the original keys and remote of the owner.
