GURUGRAM: The Punjab and Haryana high court has given the powers to the deputy commissioner to remove the encroachments around 300 metres from the air force ammunition depot and also asked them to submit its report to the court in the next hearing in the matter.
Clearing the area will be nothing short of a challenge for the district administration. The survey by the MCG had shown that there are over 6000 residential settlements around the area with the population of 25,000.
On the petition filed by the Defence Ministry, the high court has directed that there should be no civilian settlements in such a close proximity. Earlier, the judiciary had ruled that the distance should be 900 metres, however, taking cognisance of the large civilian population that has settled around the area, it was reduced to 300 metres.
