Activists raise objections to doctors in CMO inquiry team

Gurugram: A group of activists led by Mohit Khatana have raised objections to the list of doctors that are on the board of the district health department that investigates cases of medical negligence in private hospitals. The activists have also sent a formal complaint to State Health Minister Anil Vij on the issue. According to the complainants, the board comprises of various private doctors who prepare a report that does not fully make the management guilty of gross medical negligence carried out by its staff. "We all know that cases of medical negligence are on the rise in Gurugram. Yet, many of the victims do not get justice because the report prepared does not fully make the doctors guilty. We, therefore, ask that there should be no private doctors on the board," said Mohit Khatana, an RTI activist.
The anger against the private healthcare system in the city is not a recent phenomenon. However, deaths and exploitation of minor patients in quick succession in some of the private hospitals have resulted in a group of citizens demanding action against erring hospitals. The government on their part has claimed that lack of law in the state has tied the hands of the authorities towards taking strict action against the erring hospitals. After action on Fortis hospital in Gurugram, people who have been victims of the malpractices of other private hospitals in Gurugram now want action against the hospitals.
