AAP slams Election Commission over decision on VVPAT counting
NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday slammed the Election Commission after the commission rejected the demand of VVPAT counting prior to the ECM counting. The AAP also raised concern over the security of the EVMs in Delhi. "Decision of EC will lead to disaster, its a recipe for mass riots. It can lead to Civil War. If u first let political parties know the Winner & Loser, then will Winner allow elections to be set aside after VVPAT mismatch? Save this Country," tweeted AAP chief spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj.
Adding to this AAP leader and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia tweeted, "If all the arguments of EC were accepted in past also, then no reform in the election process was needed. Starting from candidate affidavits, VVPAT or VVPAT counting. Everything cannot be correct just because EC says so. Faith comes with Facts and intent behind actions in past." Delhi Chief Minister was also part of the all opposition delegation to the Election Commission which urged the EC to count all VVPAT.
Last week, The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleged that the Delhi election commission had got polling diaries manipulated by presiding officers in the South Delhi parliamentary seat after the national capital voted on May 12.
The poll commission, however, refuted the allegations and said the Delhi chief electoral officer would meet senior leaders of the AAP on Saturday to clear their doubts. AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj said the party had received "credible information" about the alleged poll code violation.
The same allegation was leveled by AAP's South Delhi candidate Raghav Chadha who said that presiding officers were being summoned by the EC and are being asked to "re-create" and "re-sign" EVM related documents. Both the leaders, however, did not substantiate their claims with evidence.
