80 shanties gutted in fire at Jamia Nagar

NEW DELHI: Close to 80 shanties were gutted in fire which broke out at Dhobi Ghat of Batla House in Jamia Nagar on Tuesday morning.

It took several hours for the fire tenders to control the fire. No human loss was reported though some people have reportedly received minor injuries.

The reason of the fire is not known immediately the senior police officers said that only a through investigation would tell the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, locals told that short circuit within someone's home are speculated to be the reason. Locals claimed the number of shanties gutted was between 100-150. Resident Mehmood Ahmed said that the fire spread quickly, causing everyone to leave their houses, and now most of them are left with no food or clothing except the one they have on them.
