5K applicants shortlisted at mega job fair in Delhi

NEW DELHI: In two-day mega job fair, nearly 5,000 applicants shortlisted for jobs in different various companies. The mega job fair was organised by Delhi government in Thyagaraj Stadium on Monday. Delhi Employment Minister Gopal Rai on Tuesday briefed media in Delhi Secretariat. The job seekers can then choose vacancies and companies as per their qualifications and skills. The candidates will be screened and shortlisted by companies in the job fair.

Employment Minister Gopal Rai on Sunday said at the job fair, 76 companies

will "provide employment opportunities to over 12,500 job seekers."

Delhi Minister Rai expressed his helpness that the employment department has 70 percent lying vacant and working on only 30 percent manpowers. "There are thousands of posts lying vacant in different departments of the Delhi government, but it is not able to fill them due to lack of powers in service matters," the Employment minister said at the job fair held at the Thyagraj stadium.

Whether the Delhi government or the office of the L-G has the power regarding service matters is yet to be decided by the court. "If the government gets powers in service matters, the vacancies in various Delhi government departments will be filled up expeditiously," said the minister.

The Employment Minister said that such job fairs

will be organized more frequently in future so that the unemployment youth may get more and more opportunities of employment and the relation between government, the youth and the industrial and commercial sectors, which provide large scale employment, are improved.
